P.S. All the bitcoin jokes you have been seeing are because cryptocurrencies are really "volatile." Just like typical currency or stocks change in value, so do cryptocurrencies - except cryptocurrencies can have several extreme "swings" each day. (But overall they have been steadily increasing).

From someone else who really doesn't know either: Bitcoin is one kind of cryptocurrency (the largest one, actually). There is no physical money, but it is created through something called block chains and mining (I don't know what this means). Many people like it because it is decentralized, meaning no government has control of it. My husband actually prefers a couple other cryptocurrencies, and one of them recently made a debit-type card, so you can actually spend it like normal cash. I think each cryptocurrency works a little bit different, so you have to research and see which ones you want to support.

You are supposed to sanitize it by boiling it after you are done using it, I think. But I agree, a little bit gross. However, probably a good thing to have "just in case" (like natural disaster or war or something where you might not have access to better options).

I should also note, that on the whole, AirBnB is completely legit and awesome. My husband and I used it almost exclusively when we toured Europe this year, and not only did we save a fortune by not paying for hotels, but we were hosted by many lovely people with great local knowledge.

AirBnB is a website where people can rent out their extra rooms (or secondary homes) to travelers. So this is saying that someone rented a room from someone else and then realized they were being secretly recorded.
