Would putting ice on the worst tooth help?
silvermyth · 7 years ago
If it feels like it will

A cold compress on the outside of the mouth might work better..it'll cover a larger area and it depends on how sensitive your teeth are.
rosebud · 7 years ago
Very sensitive. I can't move the side of my mouth
klymaxx · 7 years ago
Yeah, I would just use a cold compress or drink cold water and juices. Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water works too..1/2 teaspoon in a glass of water. Clove oil is a good analgesic...just dab a little on your gums.

make sure you wear your retainer after, it sucks but it makes it so you dont have to have braces again, ALSO make sure you check them after eating, especially lettuce and stuff like it, it gets wrapped around the wire and then you just got food in your braces

I've eaten stuff like Poptarts and they haven't gotten stuck in the brackets though

Hard candy is ok if you don't chew it, and popcorn is not a problem. Gum is fine if you're careful.

Avoid sticking pens in your mouth or biting your nails (if it's habitual) because sometimes you could unknowingly apply too much force and snap a bracket out of place.

I actually was biting my nails last night and I think I pushed my wire too far on one side. I'm going to try not to do that anymore.
What about cookies? Are they alright
deleted · 7 years ago
Cookies are fine if they're soft. If they're chocolate chip, make sure to brush your teeth after. FLOSS MAN. If you didn't floss before, make sure you do now. Drink less soda. Coke is notorious for weakening the cement that holds your brackets to your teeth
Always wear your rubber bands if you have them and chains are pure hell

What about Oreo cookies?
Also, what if I cut down my soda intake by half? Would that be too little or is that okay?
deleted · 7 years ago
Oreos should be okay but you DEFINITELY need to brush your teeth after eating them. They get all over your mouth. You can drink soda, just don't drink 3 or 4 cans a day

My max was like one can a day

I seriously ate everything they told me not to...popcorn, gum, soda, hard candy, seedy foods...I just cleaned my teeth after everything. You're supposed to clean after every big meal anyway so just a little swish or light brushing should be good.

If your wire becomes unbent in the corner of your mouth and pokes you, schedule an appointment right away, because it'll just come out more and more and fuck up the inside of your mouth.
You'll eventually get used to having the braces in your mouth, and the pain will go away with that adjustment. The orthodontist swapped out one of my brackets for a new kind, and I seriously thought they pulled out a tooth or something. You eventually won't even really think about them.
Until when/if you get the rubber bands. Good luck then, those are pain.

Try and keep a good attitude about it. Being a sour piece of shit like me will make it so much worse.
rosebud · 7 years ago
That's what I'm trying to do.
