I thought it was neat
thedarkknightess · 7 years ago
Me too! It makes you think a lot. But I don't know, I just can't fully root for Hannah.

She had an annoying face
Idk she was irritating to me
Then she progressively got less irritating as the story went on
Clay was dope tho
thedarkknightess · 7 years ago
Clay is the best! He is one of the reasons I don't understand Hannah. I mean she knew he is shy and an introvert, why did she put such a burden on him? How could she expect from him to confess his feelings for her? I don't know, my mind is full of questions.
What do you think about Justin? He fucked up so bad, but... I feel like his family context is a powerful "guilt-reducer"

I'm guessing you literally just finished it huh?

Would you recommend it to others?
parisqeen · 7 years ago
I think it was shit and extremely dangerous. I don't mind if others like it though so don't take that as a stab towards you. I just think it glorified suicide and you DO NOT show how to kill yourself either, the directors of the show actually talked to a suicide prevention committee and then did the opposite of what they said not to do. Anyways that's what I think
i_ · 7 years ago
Is this you talking as an analysis of the show, or talking as a person who's experienced suicidal tendencies?
i_ · 7 years ago
Was it a shit show, or was the message shit? Like the second Percy Jackson movie was a shit movie and a shit plot, Kung Fury was...an interesting plot with (intentionally) shit animations, Star Wars was a good movie and a good story.

Dude that hannah bitch is a fucking psycho and the whole show glorifies retardation and suicide. Of COURSE the internet ate it up
parisqeen · 7 years ago
Both, I think it was a good show in terms of drama and cinematography and all that but yeah the message was horrible. When you are suicidal you don't just have '13 reasons' and people's actions (although I agree the things she went through are extremely horrible and would have been reason enough) aren't the only reason you wish to die. She was dramatic, exaggerated and when you want someone to know they're the reason you died, it's crazy.

So it's fine to watch if you're a mentally stable person with no suicidal inclinations?
parisqeen · 7 years ago
Yeah of course, anyone can watch it it's up to them but someone who is mentally unstable should NOT watch it. It's extremely triggering and literally shows a way to kill yourself but overall the decision is completely up to the person who wants to watch it.

I think it smelled

@parisqeen I totally agree with you. I think it's wonderful that such touchy issues were brought to everyone's attention, but in the end you seem to be forced to support Hannah's decision and that's completely wrong. Some people (like you my dear!) are able to identify its flaws and interiorize its strengths in a successful way, but others don't have this critical thinking skills - or have them but not yet mature - so without argumentation and debate it's not only useless but also dangerous.
@i_ I think this show is well directed and performed, it's touching (also because some of the actors experienced depression&co. themselves) and most importantly it gives a lot to debate on. If you have no problems with your will to live, I say give it a try, critical attitude on!

Thank you I'm glad you agree, I also agree with you in the fact that as the viewer is watching it through Hannah's perspective you're not necessarily forced but almost coerced into supporting her actions and reasons (which I did not, I don't like her character in the slightest). However, it was a good thriller and did make you think.

I am soooo with @parisqueen
diyrogue · 6 years ago
@parisqueen I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. This is just my opinion though. Yeah it can be triggering to some people, Gore and violence can be huge triggers which is why there's warnings on pretty much every episode at the beginning. The reason the directors chose to add her suicide and the rape scenes was because they wanted to invoke a reaction. They wanted watchers to know that THIS is what some people have gone through and if you just skin over it and said " it happened " people don't get how serious it actually is. Even then, suicidal people already know multiple ways to kill themselves. This show didn't just show people who didn't know how to do it, they were already aware of how they could.
Though I do think the way she went about it was shitty. Not everyone deserved the guilt of being on the tapes. Also, it did kind of a bad job at hinting at suicidal tendencies because she didn't seem depressed that much until the end ( in my opinion )
parisqeen · 6 years ago
All good, I agree with you that it did bring some serious issues forward and that Hannah didn't have any symptoms of depression or anything until the end like you said. To be honest I think it's just Hannah's character that really bugs me, this could have been a more informative show if they changed her character to better react or at least change in a way that a regular person would after being in those situations.
