I'm just here to vent. My dad doesn't believe covid is real. Well he does he just believes it was man made by world elite to destroy the economy. He also believes nobody has died from the virus, and that every death has been faked. And that the numbers are fake. And that people who are "at risk" may be lying about the severity of their chronic illnesses. He also thinks that if he contracts the disease he won't see a doctor no matter what symptoms he gets. He'll just continue as normal. I honestly fucking hate the conspiracy theorists that peddled this shit. Literally of you take enough time to trace these "theories" you'll find that the people who came up with them always have an agenda like selling a book or miracle pills or something or other. I hate this so much and I just wish it would end. If you reply to this here and attempt to convince me that it is fake don't bother.

I highly doubt you'll find anybody on here who agrees with your Dad (hopefully). The fact you have to live with this guy would be really stressful and I'm sorry you have to deal with that. Honestly I haven't found many people who believe covid isn't real and I haven't talked to any of them so it's hard to grasp their true feelings, most of time I find people who say or do things like this are just scared. Either scared so they don't believe the truth and literally push that reality out of their mind as a coping mechanism for the amount of change and stress events like this cause or they're extremely ignorant, or both. Advice wise, I'm not sure how to handle this, I would try talking to your dad about it first but I'm guessing you've tried that and it didn't work so maybe you can ask him to not talk to you about it and ignore him if he brings it up and to avoid any situations, like watching the news, where he might start talking about it again. Have you tried talking to him?

i don't agree with him, but i have hunches it is manmade, whether released on purpose, or by accident, and also to have the bubonic plague come back after 500 years, seems like they're experimenting with bacteria. China wouldn't win a war with military, but they would cause a lot of grief attacking the economies, infrastructure and technology of other countries

@parisqeen yeah I spoke to him. Ended in us screaming at each other for like 30 min. He recently learned how to use YouTube properly and keeps coming across the Alex Jones types. He thinks that I'm 'like this' because university brainwashes me and it's some political agenda. It's crazy stressful to talk to him. I just don't know how to handle it. He's so arrogant about it a too. Like he's smug as fuck about it. Like "we're all going to see one day that this was all just some massive conspiracy"

Ask your dad "qui bono"?
Who is or would be profiting?
Which Elite is he talking about, who is in charge?
Conspiracy Theories can all be destroyed by research, preparation and asking the right questions.

The bubonic plague has always been around and every year it kills. The fact that it’s all over the media again right now is just to scare you. And the Spanish flu was kind of man made in that it allegedly originates from an American military base where soldiers were training and preparing for war only to then drag the virus around the world. This would be a rather dumb strategy on the part of China if that were its game @iccarus . I mean how many people are shouting they’ll never touch another Chinese product nor ever speak to a Chinese person again? More than enough to hurt business let alone what the rampant spread has done to their factories already

@bruh Youu tried and that's what matters, I'm sorry he isn't willing to listen. People like that are unfortunately, not going to try to listen and will seek out any information that supports their argument (confirmation bias) whilst ignoring any info that refutes their argument (belief perseverance). Sadly sometimes people will tend to believe more strongly in their previous argument even if proven wrong because they're so invested, it's a strange phenomenon and it makes reasoning with them very difficult. I'd say your dad is one of these people. If that's the case all you can really do is try and avoid talking about it and hope he comes to his senses. If you ever decide to bring it up again try and avoid saying things like "you're wrong, that's stupid"etc. if you can try and twist his view so he feels as if he is the one making the decision because that might work. It's pretty embarrassing to find out you've been wrong and then to try and reconsider everything you thought was truth.

@jokur_and_batmon part of virus research is to create anti-virus to combat it. So not so much of a dumb strategy to release a virus to the rest of the world when they have the antidote

My parents are afraid that whatever vaccine comes out will contain a tracking chip from Bill Gates and my sister thinks she had Covid TWO YEARS AGO.
My dad has half bought in to a bunch of other theories, but thankfully they have their heads on straight enough that they are making good social distancing and healthcare choices, even when it's hard.

I mean your sister could have had covid 2 years ago, not this specific strain but it's been around for years.

Well sure, all of us have had a caronavirus, the common cold is a caronavirus. She's thinks she had this exact one
parisqeen

Oh well I mean, that's possible but very very unlikely. If she thinks she's had it at least she's not one of those people who pretends it doesn't exist

I get what you're dealing with and my dads of a similar manner. My strategy was to just ignore my dad when he went on asinine rants about conspiracies/far right theology. He'd say something and I'd never agree or disagree to it because typically it was bs but i wasn't about to argue an unwinnable argument

Parisqueen- it didn't develop into a disease that could infect humans until the end of last year. It's impossible that she could have had it two years ago. There would have been a pandemic then if it were.
Metal man, there seems to have been double posting issues lately....

This specific Covid has only been around since last year but covids like MERS and SARS have been around for awhile, granted those have vaccines so they're not as bad. You're right about it spreading though if she did have it, didn't think bout that.
