I did this focus group for a company that deals with selling online textbooks, and when the group was surveyed about their use of PDF files in lieu of textbooks, everyone had at least used one pdf for a course. Tl;dr. PDF files are cutting into these companies' bottom lines by a lot.
You sympathize with companies' "bottom lines" more than a college student who uses 110% of her month's budget on overpriced textbooks? Really? I think accessible higher education is way more important than any profit margin.
