She was murdered for daring to interfere in the poaching trade in the Congo. Not sure about where the racist is coming from, other than she was a white woman in the Congo. And personally, there are a lot of animals I like a hell of a lot more than most people.
She tortured people who may or may not have been poachers.

The people you are referencing there were known poachers. They may or may not have poached her specific focus grou, but they were known poachers all the same, and there was hardly anyone (comparable to now) who cared enough for the gorillas to stop the poaching, as it generated money. Please get the facts straight before you speak ill of the dead.
While I don't agree with "animals are more important than people," like that lady who keeps refusing to stop feeding the bald eagles, and I definitely think TORTURE is extreme, raping the natural world and pushing species to the point of extinction seems a bit drastic, too. Ya know, kinda like comparing being an animal lover to beastiality.
