some people say not anymore because we are too much developed & have stuff like ethics etc. - i think everyone have a own opinion on that topic.. i'm not sure what is really correct.
if i think about it, i would say that every life is the same, just with different levels of consciousness. so if we say that animals = every lifeform on this planet.. then yes. then humans are too animals. but then we need to think.. are insects not too animals? and what about lifeforms in the form of plants? scientists showed that some plants have a memory, cells who are structured like a little nervesystem, they can basicly "think", not really much.. but they can. they even communicate with each other with signals or other tools.. so they are "alife".. so .. what are they? animals? or just plants? because science now say plants can feel, communicate, think, even calculate a little bit.. sooo... what we are gonna put in the animal category? :D
Since when are people arguing insects aren't animals? Humans are most definitely animals and we aren't even the only animals with ethics. Chimps, lions, dolphins... all of them have ethics. Pretty much every animal that lives in a group has some form of ethics.
Animals are everything in the Kingdom Animalia. Plants are everything in the Kingdom Plantae. Fungi are everything in the Kingdom Fungi. All 3 kingdoms encompass all eukaryotic organisms that exist. This is basic freaking biology.

in germany most people think that insects are not animals, but insects. most people here use insects as a own category for itself which is excluded from the category "animal". and thats a good example for the fact that different people have different opinions about stuff :/ but i would agree with you.
