I don't think it's bad to kill time with your phone when you're alone or on the bus or something. But I would never dare to be on my phone while being with friends or family. That's so unbelievably rude.
even just going out... it's like... enjoy the experience! Why the phone! (a pic or two, fine, but... sitting there and playing a game or txting someone?) I usually don't even take my phone if I'm going out. I only go ham on the photos during vacations... and only when it gets really epic. I only have a few friends who are like me in that regard, the rest and my family just have to take pictures of EVERYTHING... and it takes forever. So annoying. Like stop taking photos and we can see 4x as much cool shit you ass nuggets!
edited for elaboration: on vacation, I see something cool I take a pic and go back to enjoying it, takes 2 sec. My fam? OMG WE GOTTA GET THE RIGHT SELFIE... 4 min later and they still don't have the "right selfie".
I'm not gonna trust any of my personal possessions to someone I don't know. Unless I can watch them the entire time, I'll be paying that full price. Also, honestly, 10% isn't that much. You'd only be saving at best $2 for a $20 meal.
