or a parrot, at least you can have a conversation with them.... although they will shit on you... but it's not their fault, they can control their sphincter about as well as you can control your heartbeat.

Well you don't buy a dog with the intention of awaiting it's death, you buy it to enjoy it's life. Doesn't make it any less devastating I guess

With pet rats it's even worse- every second or third year.
