This is untrue. It's not caused by the setting sun, infact it's not even a real waterfall. As a publicity stunt the Yosemite National Park staff used to light a fire at the top of the mountain and then send a man up to slowly rake the glowing coals over the edge at sunset. The view, and resulting images (seen above) were beautiful. The park kept it going for a long time but eventually decided to stop because it was damaging the cliff face. I live right by the park, and I've been there countless times and seen the park's own documentary comomerating the "fire falls" of years past.
