It’s more like you have 1,000 mars bars, and you pressure 10,000 of your friends with 1 mars bar into giving 1/10 of a mars bar each while you give 5 mars bars. But then the whole thing cost 900 mars bars to put on and pay the people who run the charities and the ads and such- so in the end only 105 mars bars make it to anyone who might need them to start, and then everyone involved feels like they’ve already done what needed done to make sure 1,000 mars bars went to those in need so they move on to the next thing.
