It's not even a situation of whether or not the education system works. Most people just aren't capable of giving a shit. As long as something doesn't very directly affect them they don't care.

I don't think that's our fundamental nature, though, I think it's part of the same broader cultural conditioning that wants us consuming first, and reasoning later.
