I tell my daughter I will listen to any ideas she has for anything to make both our lives better as long as it isn't just to make her life better it must make it easier for everyone.
But if she decides the best way to answer me is to yell and argue and whine that life isn't fair. She will find out that I come from a long line of Mom's with a Super Sonic voice. And I will make her bones shake in her skin if she thinks the best way to get her point across is to insult/disrespect me or her Dad.
So luckily for her she knows better. Because she has seen me go after my nieces and nephews. They were raised by my husband's sister and she doesn't punish them she just throws her hands up like what will I do. So when I babysitted for her I showed than Auntie Melodie is NO PUSHOVER. lol
But after all is done in punishments. I always sit the kid down and explain what they did wrong and how they can improve themselves so they don't get into trouble again and that I love them no matter what.

Most I do is threaten lol I say I will smack you so hard your teeth will fly out. But never once did I ever lay a finger on any kid. Most I ever do is a little tap on a toddlers had to make them understand that is wrong. Like when my daughter tried to put a toy in the wall socket. So I tapped the top of her hand and explained why it is bad and that she could get hurt. But once you are old enough to be talked to than that stops.
