She got upset when she found out it was just the greyhound, so now I have to make it a weekly event for her. But it's the price I must pay to keep my little sister and her friends happy.

Exactly. If you just want to cuddle, by all means use 'than', but if you're looking for romantic cuddling then intercourse, you would want to use 'then'.
