I think it has to do with the frequency and timing of said ads. On youtube, they are beyond annoying. I use an adblocker on my home PC, and simply don't watch youtube on my phone or TV. I will not ever pay to remove ads, because frankly, the sheer amount of trash on youtube only warrants free access.
