I definitely think that if you are a Christian, you should be open to homosexuality, but you can't say it doesn't go against your religion.

But the Jim Crow laws have been revoked. The Christian laws against homosexuality have not. I'm not saying that you have to be against homisexuals to be a Christian, I'm just saying that you can't tell them they "aren't Christians" or anything

Ok fine. An elephant in the room is an expression which means that there is something obvious that nobody wants to talk about. Everybody is thinking about it, because it's either in plain sight or very obvious, but nobody is bringing it up. (There is an elephant in the room and nobody is talking about it.)

No. Many religions do in fact condone violence. Modern versions of those religions dont practice violence anymore, but there are many religions that condome violence
