(I've recently started the series for the first time never having watched the movies either)(which has been very shocking to my friends as I'm 19 and have only just started with the Harry Potter world now)

It's amazing... I love it so much and this book has me shook!

PoA is my favorite, because Lupin is awesome.

Yo yo
I'm reading a fanfic set in Goblet of Fire
Gordon Ramsey is the potions teacher
He made a masterchef competition
Ron is in the final 2
Y'all should read

PoA was good! My fav book was goblet of fire. Tbh I think reading the books before the movies is probably better... there's a whole world inside the books the movies never even touch on. Not that they do a bad job at all-- they're all well done. But yeah. Hope you're enjoying the series!

Though I think movies before books could be better because you get visuals from the movie and then the story from the books.
Just... watch only the first movie then? For the characters?

I mean, there's literally art on the cover if you're trying to get an idea of what things look like. Plus they're three books in. If they haven't visualized the characters by now I'm not sure the movie will help them much

1. Not all covers have pictures of the characters. They're pumping out several different covers, any of which they could be reading
2. I often forget features of a character

I can understand it offering clarity to you personally on that regard, seeing them offer the absolute most accurate (according to the movie interpretation) version of the characters they can... but most of the characters are off in various details, from minor to major.

Harry himself is supposed to have green eyes like his mother.

Admittedly, not Harry Potter, but one of my favourite examples of characters being altered in translation is Daario Nahaaris from Game of Thrones.

Someone helpfully put together a pic comparing what he does look like to what he roughly should look like:

TV and movie adaptations are never fully reliable for giving you an accurate presentation of what characters look like or even their personalities

Sorry I'm late!
@savage_demmigod, hey, at least you're reading them! That's all that really counts :P

Lmao "kind of nuggety in physique"
Where do people come up with that stuff x)

Tbh Harry looks pretty close to the cover art. And Hermione DOES have the frizzy hair in the first movie at least.. Though Tbh I found the first two movies were the ones that most closely followed the books anyway
creativedragonbaby · 5 years ago
Yeah. But where’s her buck teeth eh?
deleted · 5 years ago
She tried it in the first movie but couldn't talk with the prosthetics, so they scrapped it.
xvarnah · 5 years ago
-shrug- I don't actually CARE that much if characters have complete accuracy. Contact lenses-- especially coloured ones-- can be uncomfortable and open you up to unnecessary risks such as infection and scratches. It can be uncommon, but nevertheless it's on the whole unnecessary just for the purpose of giving someone a slightly more accurate appearance. Also doesn't she get her teeth shrunk in one of the books or am I remembering wrong?
'
They all look close enough.
'
My only point was you can't rely on movie/tv adaptations necessarily to give you accurate visualizations of characters

To answer my own question - she did have her teeth shrunk in Goblet of Fire apparently. Malfoy hexes her and madame Pomfrey attempts to fix it and Hermione let's her adjust her teeth until they're a bit smaller than before
