he claims the puppy was sick and needed to be euthanized, as if that justifies it

My two cents:
This is Idaho, half the people there are Dwight Schrute type farmers. My dad grew up on a farm and thinks taking a sick dog to the vet to get it put down is a waste of money.
I think most people are mad because he fed a "puppy" (really cute thing) to a "snapping turtle" (really ugly thing). People feed live rats to snakes the time, and nobody cares.
Should he have done it in front of his class? Maybe not, but we fed our class reptiles live food in eighth grade. *Shrug*

You got me there. Still I think it's such an aggressive thing to do.

The difference is that the rats were bred for food, and are a natural part of a snake's diet. I'm fine with that. Puppies are not a natural part of a snapping turtle's diet. Period. Whether the puppy was viable or not, whether he had permission to do it or not, what he did was not a humane action. And he should have been charged for animal cruelty, on top of being fined for not having proper paperwork to own an exotic, invasive species like a snapping turtle.

Would you be okay with puppies raised for food?
wimsyexpergefactor · 5 years ago
Damn so I just read they killed the turtle too??? WHy???
deleted · 5 years ago
Not particularly, as that's not my culture.
They euthanized the title because it was an invasive species and there wasn't a nearby zoo that was equipped to handle it.

I know how messed up this sounds, but would you be as upset if they fed the snapping turtle a mouse? If you think a snapping turtle is going to discriminate between a mouse and a puppy you're a fucking idiot. I'm sorry that this is a brutal lesson.

Oh... btw... it was a he, not a she.

@unklethan beat me again! garrr...

@riyriamistborn literally none of that is true. Most snakes are fed frozen mice. Frozen mice are not a natural part of a snakes' diet. They literally have thermal receptors where a mammal would have whiskers or a mustache. Also, any python or boa that is over 6 ft isn't being fed mice or rats; more like rabbits or chickens. Then once they get up to 10 feet+? Yeah... a puppy would actually make economical sense as you'd only need one once every 8-12 months.

On the place where the turtle was... obviously a freaking snapping turtle shouldn't be there.... but it didn't deserve to die. They relocated it and fed it... snapping turtle was just being a snapping turtle.
