I've found stars come and go for me largely based on how active I am in a week. Needless to say I haven't had one since starting this job.
As for upsetting everyone. I know that I like or dislike comments on individual terms. And I only dislike a comment if someone is being hateful. If you disagree with me respectfully I will not dislike the comment. I also might like a well said respectful comment that I don't necessarily agree with. I know that not everyone does this, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't common enough. Don't be a jerk and it will be easier to keep that star. Also, don't read to much into it, you'll lose it because you have to put in overtime or you have finals coming up more often than not anyway.
