@SuperDave thanks man, we appreciate your effort.
Personally, I have no problem with guests commenting or posting, we can just report the individual comments, but not being able to comment before making an account as well as the gazillion ads is what made me move from nein gag to here.
Eventually I became part of the community as I lurked and commented, and then created an account.
Without that I'd just have decided "heck it, I'm not signing up just for one comment, byeee". I have too many useless accounts I've never used again.
.
I don't think putting images in the comments is a good idea. I prefer the clean look and the reduced data usage and faster loading times since our internet is not super great - another reason I moved here. Gifs taking forever to load in shitty quality makes me frustrated and just move on instead of waiting to appreciate the content. We could maybe have the option of adding a link to gif, but not the embedded gif itself.
.
The ads have been covered....

and the question of password security has been brought up. The featured posts are being covered, post size has been covered, and your interest in keeping the community is really heartwarming to hear. I like the suggestion of the featured bots (daily dose of facts/cute/whatevs) and the art merchandise.
.
Will let you know if I think of something else.

the problem of letting guests post comments isnt solved by reporting individual comments as it does absolutely nothing to stop the guest from continuing to be an insufferable asshole it simply removes the individual instance of the insufferable asshole-erly. Even if you ban the IP, IPs tend to change even if the guest doesnt use a vpn (which is hella more common nowadays than it used to be with so many youtubers pushing ads for nord and such as well as just general wider spread knowledge about internet safety)
and THEN you have the problem of having guests that are actively attempting to be insufferable assholes which DO use VPNs and for such individuals the only real defense is to force the use of an account which takes at least a small time to create.

as you can ban said account and cause them to create a new account with the same amount of time and effort required to make another account with another captcha

oh yea another nice thing to add quality of life wise @SuperDave would be the ability to edit your chat comments like you can comments on a full post

Here’s an idea: block anyone who posts the exact same comment 2-3 times in a short amount of time.
mialinay · 4 years ago
That's a suggestion I can get behind
bethorien · 4 years ago
that would result in the entire website getting banned at some point with how often i see double post errors
jasonmon · 4 years ago
Maybe I'm just being optimistic here, but I haven't seen any double post errors for the last month or more. Also, the last two rounds of spammers to hit us (after the after the "rate my young ***" debacle) typed unique comments into each comment section.
thekaylapup · 4 years ago
We have never had tripe post errors though, right? So ban (maybe soft ban) anyone who posts the exact same comment 3 times within 2 min or whatever.
thekaylapup · 4 years ago
***triple
Also, editing chat responses would be nice. Even if it was limited to "you can only edit it until someone responds" or "for five min"
that_creepy_guy · 4 years ago
Or have it highlight what was edited. And would deleting a comment that was the same still count as spam or would it lower your counter by 1?
creativedragonbaby · 4 years ago
Yeah, I sometimes accidentally double post. But never triple post.
aviva · 4 years ago
I've accidentally triple posted a comment before when I was using slow WiFi. I angrily hit the 'send' button a few times because it didn't appear to deliver. Then I refreshed and BOOM! 3 comments.
