Microwave it in rice for around 2 mins
nicengelman · 4 years ago
The rice thing doesn't actually do anything, that's just an urban myth. I've had a phone get soaked, stop working entirely, and a few hours after it had dried off on it's own it started working again

Rice does work it helps to draw out the water but it isn't as good as some make out
nicengelman · 4 years ago
Not as good as the microwave apparently

Rice is a desiccant but not a very effective one so it may take a couple of days depending on how wet it got inside. I don’t see putting in the microwave doing anything but damaging the circuits.

@scatmandingo condor1990 jokingly suggested putting the phone in the microwave, it would obviously catch fire
nicengelman · 4 years ago
And the problem with putting it in rice is that dust and starch can then get into your phone, so it's actually not a good idea

Absolutely not flour! It would get into every crack and crevice and soak up all the water and turn into a paste gunked in your phone

I fix phones as part of my business. I do not recommend rice. The only good thing it does is stop people from trying to turn on their phones while they dry, which is good.

The best thing you can do yourself is set a fan up and let it blow in to the charger port for a day or so. If it doesn't work, you should get a pro to take it apart. Hopefully it comes back for you! :)

Good grief this comment section was a roller coaster ride. I'm just gonna second that for the love of god don't put it in your phone in flour or baby powder or anything composed of fine grains of anything
xvarnah · 4 years ago
And don't put it in the microwave o_o
jmmcclain · 4 years ago
*starts to chant* Microwave! Microwave!
nicengelman · 4 years ago
Who suggested flour? Or did someone make a comment that got deleted?
xvarnah · 4 years ago
The OP asked about flour
nicengelman · 4 years ago
Dammit I did a bad thing, I got as far as rice. I know, I know, read the whole title. I think my brain blocked it out since flour is such a beyond terrible idea

Haha I do not regret this adventure, as this chat turned out quite funny!
I swear I'm (usually) smart, stress just made me go "hey flour is good at soaking water" without thinking that it was not good with phones.
Rice didn't help, I let it there all night to no avail.
But God must have taken pity, because except for one bright spot that is like this handkerchief in fairy tales that proves it wasn't all a dream, the whole screen turned darker because of the humidity... and that's it. Still works, I just had a call from my mom.

I put one of mine in front of a space heater all night once, just lost use of the number 1 key. Take the battery out though, whatever you do.

Well it's slowly drying, just like that. It's not in rice anymore obviously because I needed to take it with me to work, but it's evaporating. Veeeeeery slowly.

Get a few packs of desiccant, put the phone in a plastic bag with those and tie a knot, put it in a warm place. Try the phone after a few days. No juice? Repair shop, or new phone.

I thought I had some silica gel left but nope, and repair shops are closed here now... But it's ok!!! It's drying!!!
