No worries, and yeah that's why some still celebrate in Puebla, but really Mexico lost a ton of battles after that, the french made it all the way to the capital, so it's less important. Mexico has a lot of bigger holidays which overshadow that day, many of them are religious celebrations, like Marian feast days. Those days get lit.

It's true, I'm a 2nd generation mexican immigrant who grew up around a lot of first gen immigrants. Mexican culture compared to others is very tolerant about cultural appropriation, most don't mind at all. Mexico does not really celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but Mexicans appreciate holidays whatever country they're in. I think the issue isn't about offending Mexicans bc you're wearing a sombrero. The real issue is if you use/do something with intent to be an asshole.

I am mexican, and its not a word that would exist in the Spanish language. For gender inclusive, we usually use latin@ texting, or latino/a more formally, or some in southern countries say latine, but latinx doesn't pronounce well in Spanish, so I only hear it from English speakers.
