Technically for Europe he discovered it, considering the land mass wasn't know by Europe at the time so yes he discovered, I know the Vikings also visited Europe years before he even set sail, but they didn't do anything with it, so much so that after a few years of not visiting it they just basically forgot about it so yeah Columbus discovered it
