There are actually tons of other reasons, like being vegan, vegetarian, or Muslim. I have even heard that there are some people who are allergic to pork. Sometimes people have reasons other than media craze.

Christians aren't allowed to eat pork either. And honestly I think the media creates a ridiculous amount of unjustified paranoia in people, especially with all those "you won't believe" articles.

The cholesterol, triacylglycerol, and salt content makes it terrible for you. It is also essentially tons of empty calories. Personally, I think it usually tastes bad, too. So, you don't need a religious reason or to be part of some fad to avoid bacon.
