If it helps them be a nicer person, what is the problem?

Thats exactly how I think like, Im an atheist, but if religion is something that helps some people through their problems or makes them feel complete, well would that be bad?

I'm not religious. Religion brought me guilt and fear and resentment growing up, so I don't think I ever will be. But I recognize that for some people, it brings peace and comfort. And honestly, as long as you don't use it to justify being hateful, I'm all for that. I'm very you-do-you as long as you let me do me. Just--everyone should do what makes them happy, and allow others the same liberty.

I find nothing wrong with religion and fully support people's right to have it/practice it but I've always found it strange that some people apparently need the threat of eternal damnation to be a nicer person

Yea, i don't mind religion but as soon as you push it into others I'll hate that person. Actually, as an atheist, i hope I'm wrong. If I'm correct and there is no god, spirits, reincarnations, or other stuff like that then that means ask this trouble and time I've spent is actually useless.
