While 365 species go extinct every year, 18000 new ones get discovered.
And by the way, the western black subspecies went extinct back in 2011.

Being discovered doesn't mean newly created, speciation takes millions of years and as you said in your comment species are going extinct much faster than that.

It was first declared extinct in 2006, and with more merit in 2011.
