To be fair, if you're in a gang you're a gangster.
Yet, the best gangsters are the ones that you wouldn't know we're gangsters at first glance. The guys that wear their gang colours and talk about " thug life " or " representing my gang " all the time are just asking to be caught, which means their operations land them in prison faster, which they thing gives them cred but the whole point is to evade the law.
I think it's mostly about the style. I despise any violent criminal but damn, the fashion of their era was amazing. And really, you could look up a picture of any other person from that time and they'd probably look like that too.
I saw in a documentary a few years back that the reason everyone in these pictures have different posses is because each pose means something. Some tell what the persons rank is and others tell their job in the gang and so on.

I cannot believe you're glorifyng gangsters for the sake of trying to prove that they're some how better than current Gen gangsters -_-
They're better at being gangsters than the modern ones is the point. Does pointing out flaws in serial killers mean you're glorifying them ? No. You can have an opinion on something without agreeing with what they do.

How the fuck are they better? Mobsters literally ended with laws being put in place to prevent them from existing. They are so irrelevant now wher as africam american gangsterism existed during their time and still continues to this day. Gangsters are also way more equipped with some military shit too. So if you're gonna say whos better at being what they are the mobsters failed and are obselets.
And who said they were talking about the mobsters specifically? This post is vague, just mentioning that they're supposed to look nice. There's still very much mafias in multiple countries and in Japan there's the yakuza. They look like normal men. My point was that what you claim as " African American gangsterism " today is just about reputation. The only actual gangsters live in low class areas and it's just violence and illegal activity for the sake of it. Hell, some of them have initiations where you might even end up dead because sometimes they beat you close to death, some of them if you're a chick let all of their members rape you. Just because they can.
Mobsters and mafia and the " stereotypically classy " types don't want to get caught. You usually can't tell that they're gangsters by looking at them and they don't boast about their rep all the time, because their plan is to not go to jail.
And they usually have far reaches into politics and judicial systems so that they can get away with their activity. Because for them if you go to jail you generally failed because you got caught. Going to jail and pretty much doing the opposite of what you're trying to do is a bad thing for them, not " extra cred "
