This makes no sense. The average person would not have an apple. In fact the average person would be appless. But they might have lemons. And you know what you do when life hands you lemons.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I understand averaging. But if one of ten people get an apple that doesn't mean everybody on average gets an apple. Oh and @pokethebear I like apples as well. Just not lemons. Never lemons.
"Average" is meaningless, much like Infiniti it is a mathematical concept where several types exist. In common use "average" denotes a mean average- the total quantity divided by the values. In that case this is true. In other types of statistical averages this example is false. Averages however are only a guidepoint to be used with other data, to simplify terms or substitute where detailed data isn't available. It's best not to apply "averages" where one doesn't have to when dealing with human lives. Humans are very different, each with very different lives and not following categorization beyond broad terms. In other words- it may not be 10 apples to 0 for everyone, but most people shouldn't expect $4,000 from the deal either.
