How insignificant are we?

Maybe the universe is a giant organism and we are small, harmful bacteria and Earth is the white blood cell trying to kill us

More likely that the earth is just a part of a receptor and we're the beginning of what might one day become a part of a random muscle twitch. Or passing sense of determination and melancholy.

One could only hope. Although that does lead some credence to the thought that we are what would be the most evolved form of perception. Our very consciousness like a cosmic sense of touch.
