33 lions are rescued from circuses in Colombia and Peru and airlifted to the Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa. They could not be released into the wild as circus owners mutilated them by breaking their teeth and removing claws.

Doesn't say, but "A circus surrendered some of the lions, while others were seized in raids." might sound like they did
