If your police departments have policies against responding to car break-ins, there's an issue.
If your courts will allow repeat felons to plea away gun charges, there's a problem.
If you refuse to use clear cuts and controlled burns then act surprised at forest fires, there's an issue.
If citizens are moving out of your state in droves while you invite illegal aliens, there's an issue.
If you decriminalize deliberate spread of HIV/AIDS, there's an issue.
If all this and more is happening in one place, maybe everyone else should build a wall around them.
Yeah. California is really suffering from people leaving the state. That’s why real estate has become so cheap. Why- you can now buy a home 50 miles away from a major city for only an average price of over a million dollars. I do of course wonder.... After the levees broke in Catrina was that the fault of the people or the government? Of course.... the huge fires in California were caused by private companies who took money and said they had cleared the fire dangers but just... didn’t and kept the money. So... I’m not so sure about that being an issue of not allowing cut and burn.
Of course- as one of the top economic producers in America, and one of the top providers of aid to other states, building a wall around California might not turn out so well for others. I also wonder if so many other states like New York would still follow the legal and regulatory precedents set by California or if they would decide not to?
No where is perfect. Anyone who lives in California has plenty to complain about. But.... California, much like America- has lots of problems but then many native Californians or transplants look around and say: “Huh. Yeah. Id still rather deal with this crap than live over there....” Much like America- California is also a subject of ridicule by many. Many Californians don’t know or care what is happening “over there” but man- people in other states sure can’t keep California out of their mouths.
But I’m sure the state that has the highest population, the highest GDP, is a world wide tourist destination, a world leader in business and technology, is one of the leading entertainment and creative centers in the world, and is ranked in the top 5 US states for happiness... is surely on the path to destruction. Oh. I forgot to mention it is also a major grower of domestic agriculture.
Oh! And as a fun fact- of you ejected California from the union- it would instantly become one of the worlds richest countries with one of the top GDP in the world! Wow. So I mean.... hey. Do what you gotta do. California has been prosperous and a destination of folks for basically its entire history. I think it would do just fine.
But- as a side note... if California is so poorly managed... and has so many “looney laws” and idiotic citizens... but still manages to beat out almost every other state in the union for most categories except being cheap.... what uh... what does that say about everyone else? Like... if a bunch of inept morons can be at the top of the pack.... like.... how bad are these other states to not be able to compete...?
California is the world's 5th largest economy, and puts into the federal government about 1/3 of what it takes out. It has its issues (housing being the main one), but it is a powerhouse in all available metrics.
Hollywood, Silicon Valley, and Ports. Sure does a lot to make the state look good, and next to nothing to help with kids tripping over used needles into piles of human shit. Javier's little sister got domed by an MS-13 drive-by targeting someone on the other side of the block, but #OsacrsSoWhite.

Whatever floats your boat. I should have thought before I posted. I forgot that California is the only state where things like that happen. No other state anywhere ever has anything bad happen. People don’t get hurt in Texas, Michigan, Florida, Maryland, etc. No one does drugs in Illinois or Louisiana or New Mexico. There is no violence in Arizona or Atlanta or New York. The things you mentioned could in fact only happen in one place on earth.
Although.... it kinda sounds like your beef is that the state isn’t perfect? No where is. California is not one of top safest states in the nation, but asides Hawaii you won’t really find a remotely comparable state on that list- and most states on that list have a million or less people- with the most populace still having 10x less people that California.
Despite this California still isn’t in the bottom running- which includes mostly Southern states and southwestern states like Texas. So I suppose waiting to get your gun because of your ex boyfriend or whatever may not be as dangerous as you imagine it to be?
And yes. The state is far from perfect. San Francisco is a giant toilet, it costs too much to buy a home or get your car registered. People use drugs. Crimes happen. Sometimes very brutal violent crimes. Ok. All valid points. But none are exclusive to California, and there aren’t too many states with large populations that don’t face some similar problems.
