Not really. It’s all about skin in the game. If internet debates were really so useless do you think countries like China would control communications over the internet so tightly? Much of the communications in the HK protests has been through social media and internet. One of the largest protests of all time- and much of what the outside world knows of the protests or even that they are going on? Internet. While you still need to actually do something in the real world, show up, refuse to go somewhere, or like Blizzard or others have seen- refuse to do business... the internet can have profound impact on the real world. The fact a joke FB couldn’t get millions to raid a military base isn’t a good indication the internet isn’t a powerful tool to rally people or spread information.
