It's not about what Americans did 150 years ago, it's about how this is still influencing daily life of many Americans. Probably most Americans cause that's how societies work. There were more white slaves in Africa than have ever been black ones brought to the Americas. To include South and Central America that had far more slaves than Pre-Civil War US could have ever dreamed of!
To this very day actual slavery persists in Africa and Asia.
