In fairness though- how do they know? Some guys get circumcised later in life but usually it is done when either they’d have no or little memory- and almost never when they are already sexually active. I mean- most blind people don’t wish they could see- and most of my friends with breast implants are very happy with them. That doesn’t mean we should blind babies or start giving pubescents implants because “most people like it” or because “it’s a common preference.”

Oh. I see how it is. When you’re grieving- everyone will tell you that they are never really dead so long as you keep them alive in your heart. But suddenly, if you take that too literally- you’re a monster. This is why we have global warming- y’all just want to waste things. Can’t be bothered to reheat left overs so you just throw them away. Think of the children.

Tl:dr- These are 9 faces. Let me put that in perspective. I could show you 9 major and loved leading men from films and TV just from last year without breaking a sweat. I could give you 9 leading men in one movie- multiple times. “See? Here’s 9 ladies we like...” is kinda like if a company of 1,000 people tried to counter they were racist by showing that they had in fact hired at least 9 diverse people- and some of them they even gave jobs not in a warehouse or on clean up staff. They even let some work as assistants in the office! Well. That settles it then. 9 prominent female roles With questionable receptions and details? I guess we ended sexism and anyone left talking about it is just whining.

Now- I’m not saying the whole world doesn’t like “strong female protagonists,” but I’m saying this list doesn’t prove most people do.

Éowen- also... asides Aragorn... what does she want? Who is she? She spends more time in the films pining after Aragorn than anything else and then fights a couple fights. That’s her role. It’s also worth noting that to this day people still mock and detest the one and only major thing she did in the films- “no MAN can...” yeah. So as long as she shows up to fight once in awhile and doesn’t really do anything she seems ok. How many people say she’s one of their favorites from the films? Show of hands? Lotta- Éowen Halloween costumes?

Trinity- she’s smart, she kicks butt. What does she want besides 1. The same thing as everyone else (survival of the human race/self)? Neo. That’s it. That’s her story. She shows up, she kicks butt and “holds her own” with and against the guys- but she’s only there for a live story for Neo. What do we know about her? She was in the matrix. She was a hacker, she likes Neo.... that’s as deep as she goes. She’s basically the same as every other secondary character except she has boobs and kicks butt- and is the arm candy and mguffin to the chosen one.

Arguably- many of these women don’t pass the test of strong female character let alone strong female protagonist- when you consider about 30% of our list aren’t even protagonists characters even if they are lead characters. Even where they ARE the protagonist in several cases the story really isn’t about them at all.

There’s more we could examine but instead of doing every film on the list I also want to discuss the idea of a “strong female” in fiction.

Hunger Games has a 60% female fan base- and not too many people are arguing women have issues with strong female characters.

Ripley was written as a man- as an interesting fact, and they changed her to a woman and changed some of the writing. But despite the success of the aliens franchises it wasn’t primarily Ripley who audiences liked- and when the films were new/newer Ripley was actually more often used as a joke than lauded as a character. In the first film she was a standard “female horror protagonist”- women psychologically evoke an idea of vulnerability with most men and are more relatable to women- horror is a leading genre with female audiences after all. The third and fourth films with her did poorly with audiences, critics, and earnings.

That said- despite the money or Pirates OC- except the first film all the installation have largely panned with critics, and haven’t done too swell on audience score either- with some installments doing better than others, but several being considered bad or passable to both critics and audiences.

With just a little more insight this becomes kinda funny for other reasons. Cut throat island was considered one of the biggest flops in film and according to some sources only made about 1/10th its budget at the box office. It was also planned by critics it has rotten scores for audience and critics to this day- and is said to be still a reason that Hollywood is reluctant to do pirate movies- with Pirates of the Caribbean being A rare exception and itself an established point of nostalgia.

Relationships are complex. I don’t believe in cheating. I don’t think it’s right, and I think that people should have respect for each other and be honest. That said- we all aren’t perfect- and say they cheated, felt terrible, were going to tell you to at least be somewhat respectful and honest- then you found out. Are you going to believe t or will it matter when they say “I was going to tell you..” or “I wasn’t going to hide it...”? There’s potential got overwhelming emotions and thoughts and so forth- and crying can be one response to being overwhelmed.

I could by and large agree- and beyond being problematic I see it as somewhat moot even if it is true or we are taking about an isolated sub set of people’s experiences. People cry all the time when they are caught for something with has consequences or potentially shame. When they get arrested for example. They probably didn’t want or think things would go that way.

lol. It certainly has its moments. That’s part of the trouble with a sequel film. Of course many involved felt- especially after the film became such a phenomenon- artistically they figured they didn’t have anything left to say and left it in a good place. But there is a sequel book and studios like money- and a sequel would almost certainly mean that- but they just couldn’t figure out a way to adapt the book or come up with something separate from the books that all the folks needed for the project could agree on for the longest time.

In my defense when getting hit in the face is a regular enough occurrence the two are closely related.

Nothing against Kobe Bryant or anything- and I get that he’s the big name here- but we can’t even get: “Kobe Bryant and Pilot die in crash...”? It’s not a call to arms or anything- it’s just something that hit me while I was reading all the headlines. Haven’t really processed or filtered it- just an unfiltered reactionary thought.

But damn. It’s like- “Helicopter crash kills Kobe... aaaand also maybe some other guy. Who cares?”

And if that pilot had just been giving a tour to Judy Smith and her family or something we’d get: “helicopter crash kills 4...” or like “Pilot and tour group killed in crash” I mean- even if it was like a local city councilor or something it would probably be “helicopter crash kills Councilor Davis and pilot...”

While I was checking this out just to see if it was real (not that I doubt the poster- It’s a meme site so I try to verify anything I see, especially something lien this where he was pretty young etc-) Wall to Wall headlines on goodie search: “alone Bryant dies in helicopter crash...” and like- I get when Harrison Ford crashes his plane- it makes sense “Harrison Ford in plane crash...” but I dunnoh. Browsing the headlines got me feeling kinda bad for the pilot here. Like- if Kobe wasn’t in the helicopter the headlines would likely be less- but would still at least in local news be like “<Father or X, local whatever etc> pilot dies in crash outside LA...”

So first of all- thank you for the news. I probably wouldn’t have heard about this for weeks otherwise. Secondly, it’s sad when anyone does and lots of people have some feeling of connection to the man. I’m especially sorry for his family. Lastly though....

The time frame isn’t too critical though because we don’t know how up to date the doctors Jenny saw were. If it was before 1989 she wouldn’t be diagnosed with Hep C and could be told it was a mystery, or diagnosed wrongly with a known condition. If it was after 1983 her doctors still may not have been familiar with HIV/AIDS as the disease was still stigmatized and somewhat obscure into the 1990’s.

It could be HIV/AIDS or Hep C as both are diseases that are often passed through the types of behaviors we see with Jenny like Sharing Drug needles and or unprotected sex. Both diseases were relatively unknown until the 80’s. HIV was first reported observed about 1981 but no one knew what it was officially until 1983. Hep C wasn’t discovered until 1989.

Lol. Yes. But it is VERY different from the film. Also- the sequel has him teaming up with a monkey and in OJ’s Bronco amongst other things. I think he also somehow had Monica Lewenskis dress? It’s been a long time.
