Who needs The Onion these days when Trump has a twitter account and Sarah Huckasanders is holding press conferences?

"So to take offense to the term colonizer or be labeled as such i must sympathize with colonialism and/or feel trauma over dissolution of colonialism?" - No, you take offense because you get it all wrong and feel addressed in your attribute of being white. That's where your whole confusion starts, and confused people have a tendency to feel attacked. That's a vicious cycle, try and get out of that.

Two unrelated facts about me: I'm as white as it can get. I don't sympathize with the idea of colonialism at all and I have no post-colonial loss trauma. So when she talks about colonial narcissism I don't feel addressed at all. Is that because of my slight white guilt?
Also, from the general kind of "opposite response" to people who allegedly use "large words for the sake of conveying superiority" I usually infer anti-intellectualism. That's how the internet works.

I don't know about any of that, I was commenting on your anti-intellectualism and not on anything racial, or western, for that matter. In fact that Low Arctic person in the meme didn't even mention white, that was Bearzerker. Kinda touched a whining reflex there... and here.

I love how you're really, really convinced that if you wouldn't do something, "no one" would. And that everything important to know must be for free. What a small, simple world you live in.

@under_fire - if you _really_ would like to know what is meant by (post)colonial narcissism you could google Frantz Fanon but you might have to buy a book or cross some other paywall to get deeper into it.

When you expect a person probably talking to his/her peer group to use terms and concepts that you, (outside that peer group) can understand, just to sound like a relatable buddy guy to _your_ peer group which is probably simply annoyed by complicated words they don't use at all cause they're not elitist poofters.

Oh, again with the absurd comparisons, way to go. So, if I quote a text from a paywalled source, it's not legit because you would have to pay to read the very same words for yourself? As you said, this is not academia, there is no debate prize to win, just a casual exchange of ideas, right? What if I made a screenshot of said text? I could still have it photoshopped, right? If I gave you my log-in and password to said paywalled source, that'd turn it magically into a legit source? What an "ability to logic" indeed...

Ok, just found that this no paywalled source thing is a thing on some subreddits, mainly coming from the "why would I pay for anything on the net" faction. So @bethorien didn't make this up, my bad and my apologies. Still a foolish concept though

It's the combination of certain food ingredients and heat. No matter what it says on it: don't microwave them, no matter what's inside, and don't put any hot food in it. LIke never. For that there are those bowls made of glass which have the same air/watertight plastic lid. Red-colored stuff like bell peppers and tomatoes will probably dye any plastic it comes in contact with, but the plastic will not deteriorate, that's solely from the heat.

I agree if you're referring to people who claim to reject capitalism in its entirety. They have valid points, but the irony of a fiend of capitalism agitating on his/her Iphone on a Verizon data plan is solid. Criticism of capitalist excesses is legit though.

Sorry, I'm afraid your arguments are completely illegitimate because you're not wearing a rainbow colored hat with a propeller on top while making them.

But you can have access if you want. You could choose to pay one (1) Dollar to access the source and find out or not to pay and say "Nah, I'm not that interested" or just say nothing. Instead you chose to just make up some random nonsense. But I get it, we're in the internet, the place where any moron can make up the rules according to which s/he's right.

So if I choose a textbook as source for a claim, you'll not only feel free to ignore it as you'd have to pay for the book, but will even call it illegitimate? That's just ludicrous.

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2018/jun/18/environmental-protection-agency/are-greenhouse-emissions-down-under-donald-trump-e/
TLDR - emission went down during the first months under his "government" but not because of his policies. Guess whose policies made for that drop. And guess whose policies (ie coal) are pretty likely to stop that trend.
.
Btw: " it's pay walled so its not to be considered a legitimate source" - that is peak bullsh!t.

It can only be my lacking ability to express what I mean (cause what else could it possibly be (<-- now that's sarcasm which you might experience as hostility)), but you still didnt seem to catch my point. I'm not trying to take away anything from anybody, I'm just suggesting not to take everything anyone says for serious and relevant at any place and time.

Who is trying to forbid people having opinions? My opinion is that people who don't have a fncking clue about a certain matter should not be taken that much into account when it is about that very frigging same matter. All I'm considering is giving them less attention in public debates. That has nothing whatsofnckingever to do with marching them into the sea or forbidding them to have (and express) opinions. And you know that all too well, so your soap box attitude is a bit pathetic. Maybe look for an additional hobby?

If it's a great public event, I'd rather watch it with my own eyes that very moment, I can still watch professionally made footage and pictures of that said event and much better recall my personal presence there. Most people can recall emotions better than actual facts. If it's only me seeing something great, it probably better to record it myself, obviously.

Knowledge is the intersection of belief and truth. The benefits of vaccination have been proven way beyond doubt, so fnck debates with anti-vaxers. This type of people should stick to challenge other people's view on the color of a dress but not judge things they clearly haven't got any clue of. The problem is these people are not excluded from public debate like in the pre-internet, or rather, pre-facebook days. Then, when someone like that would speak up in a public debate, he'd be confronted with the looks of the people around him and most likely just shut the fnck up and sod off. Now it seems everyone needs to respect his "views and beliefs" so he won't get cranky and vote a lunatic as president. Worked great sofar, amirite?

How is HE speaking for all Mexicans? It's a common mistake to assume once one (1) directly concerned person can give a general absolution for something affecting ALL of his/her group. That one Mexican who says "we love it all", that one woman (I've never experienced sexism my whole life!), that one black person (racism is a myth fro the past) does NOT speak for all of them and is hardly ever undisputed within his/her community. The power group is loving it of course, but that doesn't make it more relevant.
