Shark Attack #1 - Shark Week 1 comments

Shark Week is an annual programming block on the Discovery Channel which started airing in 1988 on July 17th. Since then, it's aired every year for a week, usually during July or August. Its aim was to give sharks better PR and to correct misconceptions about them. This year it will be airing from July 11th to July 18th. And in honor of that, I shall drop my regular series and post shark-related stuff this week. And just like actual shark attacks, you won't know when these posts are coming, but you'll most likely survive them.

It takes dedication and years of study to perfect one's cat gif gathering skills, but the results meow for themselves.

I know what you're thinking: Do these cats adhere to ragdoll physics? Sorta. They get their name from their tendency to relax or go limp when picked up.
They're a very docile breed but also very strong with a high threshold for pain (it's highly recommended not to test this though). What makes them really great companions however is their tendency to exhibit dog-like behavior. As such, they belong to a rather exclusive class known as puppy cats. (Whether or not they bark at other cats or dogs has yet to be determined.)

More specifically Tanabata or the Star Festival. It's celebrated in Japan on various days during July and August, with the earliest starting date being July 7th.

I'd jaywalk...more than usual. I know, I know, I'm something of a bad boy. If can't handle living on the edge, you can't ride with me.

First appearing in 1994 as an adversary of Superboy, he later more fittingly became a recurring villain of Aquaman. He is also often seen as a member of the Suicide Squad (including in the upcoming "The Suicide Squad" movie where he'll be voiced by Sylvester Stallone).
It is worth remembering that his behavior is NOT typical of most sharks. For one, regular sharks tend not to come on land. But despite being often portrayed as a blood-thirsty man-eater (he will chew you up, boy) there are more recent incarnations that show him in a less brutish light, such as the one in the "Harley Quinn" TV series. (Harley is a trained psychologist after all. Who's to say she can't help sharks, too?)
