I also just noticed that in one of the frames of this, Morty was laying with Rick's hair's shadow over his head as though it were his own. Perhaps it was a little iconic thing to show that Morty is becoming more like Rick in this panel? Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Him killing King Jelly Bean was a side thought. If it wasn't then he wouldn't have stuck his hand in the portal to kill him - he would've stayed behind to make sure he was killed.

The torture likely did not happen. It is much, much more expensive to torture an animal than it is to just kill it. The overcrowding might be real, but the torture just isn't realistic.

It's an odd situation. Rick cares for Morty somewhat but not enough to go out of his way or hurt himself over. He'd happily kill someone who hurt Morty - as long as that person wasn't too difficult to find. Rick was perfectly happy to leave Morty's would be rapist alive, however Rick saw him at the last moment and decided that he should kill him.
You wouldn't actively go outside and try to find a quarter on the ground, but if you see one then you're gonna pick it up.
