That’s how we learned that my brother was allergic to horse. He ate a “beef” burrito and had really bad allergic reaction. So they did an allergy test and he’s only allergic to horses and dust mites.
A decade or so prior, he had a similar reaction to a Salisbury steak. We assumed it was something in the sauce but in hindsight… it was probably the “beef.”

Lol @famousone I was really surprised to seen this kind of feel good inspirational post from you (no offense, it’s just not your usual MO). And I seriously didn’t suspect it was doctored until I to the last one. Then I realized gun control probably wasn’t originally there either. But I totally glossed over it. :)

Also, and equally important, if I am currently stepping over you, it’s too late to jump up. You must—I can’t stress this enough—must wait until I complete my step.

Whoa. The hair cutting just slapped me in the face.
I guess I never thought the part of my life where I put my hair in a ponytail and cut it off to be anything other than a stress response. But I never (somehow) connected it to PTSD. It’s amazing how easy it is to feel like you’re the only one feeling a certain way…

Incidentally, there are 11 states in the eastern US that have a place named Roanoke. Tennessee, the state I live in, does not.

These are great tips. I’ve been feeling a lot better since I really committed to doing all of them each day.

It’s like that time my younger coworker asked, “how do you record a mix tape?”

It can be hard to know if something you did caused the behavior or if that is just the person your kid is. We always snuggled my baby to sleep. We never let the baby “cry it out.” My baby also never needed a specific blanket/toy/pillow to go to sleep or comfort. Never used a pacifier. Didn’t have trouble sleeping in new places.
Maybe this is just the person that would have developed no matter what. And there are a lot of things I’m not confident I can take credit for, but I do think that by preventing the need for self-soothing every night while sleeping, my kid developed a sense of comfort and safety that evolved into some frustratingly fierce independence.
