The twelve labors of Hercules were twelve tasks believed to be impossible and Zeus was presumably trying to get his son killed so that he would not need to make him a god.

I definitely question that someone might be homosexual if they say "my partner" but not everyone does. I've been being purposefully ambiguous about my relationships at work, and one woman I work with has definitely not caught the fact that I am persistently gender neutral in response to her referring to my ex (who is female) with male pronouns.
That being said, I told someone else "my roommate " and her immediate response was "like your 'roommate' or actually just your roommate". So definitely some people are just more inclined to pick up on that kind of thing.

An underwater sign 9 comments

So, I know this sign was put here for safety and no one should dive in that cave anyway. However, I also feel as though this would be the perfect sign to pit up at the secret underwater entrance to your villain lair.

Monkeys peel bananas. I assume the first humans to eat bananas watched monkeys do so first.

It should be noted that I actually enjoyed the building meme and I think it helped the site as a whole in a time when everyone was uncertain that this community could make it. Also, it's the shared experience of that meme that allows this one to be funny at all.

this is my cat so much it hurts 5 comments

Fun fact: Some cats really struggle to get the food out from the edges of some bowls. You may want to consider gathering the remaining cat food into the center of the bowl, or getting a different cat dish.
Your cat might not have this problem, but if they do I'm certain the cat would appreciate you fixing it. Even though they probably will not show as much.

He was hired to design the smiley face. He designed it in less than 10 minutes and was paid 45$ for it. He never owned the design because he designed it by comission. The company who obtained the smiley didn't bother to copyright it, and it gained widespread popularity. Another company modified it slightly, copyrighted the new design and made millions$

Nice Forrest Gump reference.
In reality it was designed by a grafic designer who was commissioned to do so. It was intended to make people smile.
Do you let your pets sleep in your bed? 21 comments
thekaylapup · 5 years ago
Like, as long as the pet house is adequate to the pet's needs this is fine. I have known people who have barn cats (cats who live in the barn). The cats were perfectly healthy.
I don't think it's okay to keep a dog in a kennel constantly, but a dog who lives in a fenced in yard with a dog house, seems reasonable.
The woman who we bought our rabbit from has a building on her property that's basically just a large rabbit hutch. Its temperature regulated of course because this is Iowa.
The point is, not letting animals live in your house is not in and of itself cruel or wrong.

Gender is a social construct. Gender is the roles and expectations society has on someone, and is usually very closely linked to biological sex.
Even when we refer to them the same way, genders have varied wildly from region to region and throughout history. As has language. For both of these reasons what it means to be a man or a woman has changed greatly since those words have existed.
In a world of complexity and greater social progress I think its completely reasonable to see gender actually become less meaningful. Humans are inherently individualistic and grouping all humans into only two groups is going to make those groups difficult to quantify. For every rule there are exceptions.
I think in 50 years we won't see gender as meaning so much. I think in some ways it will become more like race. Some people will care a lot and there will still be discrimination, but many people will have a "it doesn't really matter" additude.

Where I live many places have these two tier carts. Each area is only about the size of a basket and a half. You get much more maneuverability than the middle cart, but more space than a basket. Also you dont have to carry a basket which is nice. I've never seen the first style of cart.

Yes. And they are referencing a British comedy movie that is poking fun at how arbitrary numbers of significance in religion are, by making the numbers not at all arbitrary and then treating them like they don't actually matter.

Sunflowers stay open once they open. They are called sunflowers because the seedlings turn toward the sun throughout the day. Adult sunflowers do not do this however.

Fun fact: This can happen without cheating. Most people who are considered sterile actually have a very small chance of having a baby. Obviously this is not the case in some situations (usually if sterilization is a result of injury and surgery) but most often if someone is born sterile they actually have a very very small chance of having a baby.

Parents shaming their children online is a trend that needs to stop. These things don't just go away. If your child shaming gets big enough there is a very real chance it will be the first thing that comes up when you Google your child's name. You know potential employers and the best friends of new significant others Google names right? Do you really want your daughter to be turned down for a job she worked hard to get and would love just because this comes up when you Google her? Do you want this to be the first impression your daughter's husband's best man had of her back when your daughter first started dating? These are the potential consequences for your actions.
If your child misbehaves, consequence them. But there is no need to do it on a public forum, least of all on the internet. Sell the tickets. But don't call your child names on the internet. You aren't even trying to correct the behavior at that point, your just getting revenge. And that's what you will teach your kids

Bread fraud mostly involves underweight bread, which can be done by weighting the bread and then removing dough through a secret hole if your baking bread in front of your customer. Of course if you are alone bread fraud is much easier to commit.

It is just a 'mentally ill' person sorting out his issues 57 comments
thekaylapup · 5 years ago
I'm not saying that it was. It's just easy to go from "people with mental illness should be held responsible for their actions" to "People with mental illness are a problem" and never actually get to "we should try and make it easier for people with mental illness to get help" so whenever I see one of the first two without the third, I try to make sure the third is brought up.
