Actually, I had the whole "why haven't we done that yet" moment when I learned that gays got the right to marry. I heard about it and immediately thought "Wait, we hadn't already done that? Wow."

I think I have an explanation. The rich parents in town pay a HUGE sum of money for him to let their kids loose in his store, eating whatever they want, for, say, 15 minutes at a certain time everyday. Charlie would never be able to afford that, so he has to look in through the window.
