At any point in time .5% of the population of oklahoma is currently infected with the std. In my town (college town) its estimated that 1/4 college age people have the disease.
The average rate of infection in the united states as a whole is about 500 in 100k people for reported cases of it which doesn't even take into account the fact that its estimated that near to 1/3 of people infected won't have it diagnosed as they often dont show symptoms for a very long time.

hispanic is just a term for spanish speaking people from latin america. A lot of them are probably from families that aren't originally from Mexico maybe moved north from Guatemala or Belize. A lot of people are the same way in america about such things.

There is a fairly large difference between a fear of death and a fear of suicide. When I started recovering from suicidal depression I was rather scared that I was gonna end up killing myself not because i was afraid to die but because i was afraid of hurting my friends. I actively wanted death there was no fear of it there at all. I'd assume it would be exactly the same sorta thing here just on a different level
