There are those who say that during apartheid Africa was more economically prosperous (don't for one second think I'm advocating apartheid)
Milkshake, Africa may have been "doing fine", if "doing fine" includes tribal warfare, commonplace infant death, and never becoming a global economic force
If "the West" had completely left it alone, Africa would be virtually the same it was 200 years ago
I refer to my one of my original points, the UK's prosperous economy allows us to help out foreign countries to the tune of over £150 billion

Again, no
Where has Africa, on it's own, got in the last two centuries?
Virtually nowhere, compared to the UK, the US, Norway, Sweden, etc.
Where did the industrial revolution happen? England
Before that, we were still world leaders, but the industrial revolution was a paradigm shift in terms of technological (and thus economic) progress
Meanwhile, in Africa, they still throw spears at each other
While the RAF and USAF hand out aid packages

Err
No.
Africa was a shithole well before colonisation
It's the technology and money our (mostly) capitalist economy has facilitated that allows us to give 0.7% (£182 BILLION) of our GDP in foreign aid that does go some way (but nowhere near enough) to solve the problem

When it does get distributed, it creates a nation of takers, rather than entrepreneurs who want to create a stable market system, sadly
It's the selfish, tribal mentality present in most third-worlds countries that causes poverty in the first place

Not saying it would cure polio, but it would prevent a plethora of other conditions/illnesses
