@morebacon I hope you don't mind if I share my point of view on those topics you've discussed, and I'm glad someone as nice as you responded. First off I would like to put forward the notion that there are two world views: either a God created the universe or nothing did. This is the basis for the Creation/Evolution debate. I bring the idea of Evolution into this because you mention "billions of years" and "the Big Bang". These two world views are exact opposites of each other, as you can plainly see (e.g. a 6000 year old world vs billions of years, Noah's Flood vs gradual erosion over long periods of time, etc). The one crucial difference is that if there is a God, all of us are accountable to Him, and if there is no god, we are accountable to no one. Note that both of these world views are unscientific, or are considered 'historical science', because they are not testable, observable, repeatable, or predictable. [tbc]

Note that when I refer to evolution, I mean the 5 types of 'evolution' that are not observational science. The 6th type, Micro-evolution (changes within a kind of animal), is observational science, and is scientific fact. Note that 'evolution' and 'science' are not synonymous, and that 'religion' is not the opposite of 'science'. [tbc]

- "Time didn't exist until Adam and Eve sinned. They were immortal. So who's to say that the 6 days of creation mentioned in the Bible didn't last billions of years?"
Time did exist before Adam and Eve sinned, I don't know where you got the idea that it didn't. I don't quite understand your point because you then suggested that this non-existent time could have lasted billions of years.
- "It doesn't say in the Bible "as the sun rose on the second day, third day etc, so there's no way to define the length of those days."
Actually, the original Hebrew word for 'day' used in Genesis is 'yom', which when paired with a number or a time of day indicates a literal 24 hour day, not an indefinite amount of time. http://creation.com/the-meaning-of-yom-in-genesis-1

- "Also, when God said "let there be light", why couldn't that be referring to the big bang?"
This refers to Genesis 1:3. But note the two verses before it (KJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
This verse could not possibly refer to the Big Bang, because the Earth was created before it. Why shouldn't it mean that God literally made light then?

- "There's scientific proof that the Earth has been around for billions of years."
This is the real controversial topic. I would say that there is stacks of scientific evidence for the Creation theory, and that there is a stunning lack of evidence which supports the Evolutionary model. Most times when discussing scientific theories, the best form of evidence is when you disprove the other theory. For example, prostrate fossils going through multiple layers of rock could not possibly have been laid down over millions of years; the trees would have rotted away. The Grand Canyon's Colorado river would have had to travel hundreds of meters uphill to carve through the dome hill that the Grand Canyon sits in the middle of, when the water could have easily gone around the hill (this is known as a water gap). These features can be explained in the context of a global flood, with fast moving water carving canyons quickly, and causing rapidly forming sediments to cover fossils. [tbc]

- "Needless to say my theories are not very popular with Christians that take the Bible as scientific fact instead of a historical account and a guide on how to treat people better. After all, the old testament is pretty dark when it comes to human rights."
I would not call the Bible scientific fact, because science is flawed. We cannot 'prove' the Bible's truth with science, but we as Christians should use the Bible as a starting point to explore science. The Bible is a literal historical account of our world, and holds many suggestions on ways of life, as well as unchanging moral codes we must live by. I do not know as much about the old testament's 'dark' topics as I would like, so I cannot comment on those.

@stream_42 lmao.
@sublimrgamer as stimulating as this conversation is, it's two point of views on a topic that will not get solved on FS. This argument is thousands of years old and as Christians (you and I), will only know the true answer when we enter Heaven. I do believe the Bible has historical fact, I just choose to question some parts of it. After all, religion is flawed because man is flawed. I base my questions on mainly on the counsel of Nicea and the fact of the number of books left out of the Bible. Most of all the book of Mary Magdaline. This peaks my intrest because Jesus chose to show himslelf to her first after being resurected. Why would the ccounse choose to leave the acount of the person whom Jesus chose to spread the word that he has come back? I also do not question the divinity of Jesus but I do reject the fact that He couldn't have had a wife or children. I dont base my intrigue from Dan Brown either. I had these questions before I ever him.

My point is we will never know what books were left out or destroyed. https://blacknonbelievers.wordpress.com/books-left-out-of-the-bible/
Here are the ones we know about. My favorite is the book of Enoch. That book in and of itself is aastounding. What we know as the Bible today is missing so many parts that as a critical thinking Christian I cant help but wonder what we're missing out on. I enjoy polite conversations such as ours. Its hard for me to get across to people in person that I beleive in God, Jesus, and the holy spirit because of what prayer has dobe in my life. I know in my heart there is a God and I know that these questions I have dont go against him. Im just simply curious. Things have happened in my life that only God could have been apart of. I also have been a witness to events that no scientist can explain. This however, does not make me turn a blind eye to science or the error of human ways. I am simply a Christian with questions :)

Me too, friend, me too. I have also witnessed great works of God in my life and the lives of others around me.
