There is no such thing as a high functioning sociopath.

Are you sure.....????? Its a person who sees death or kills a person and feels no remorse.....slightly on the crazy side .......(= And its a diagnosis my friends therapist gave me a couple years back. And this could be a sherlock thing....I like the show.

Basically I only feel remorse for animals....people are mean and confusing so i have given up on humanity. In the words of Dean Winchester "Demons I get, but people are crazy "

Can I ask you something? You may not know the answer but I'm curious

Sociopaths are uncontrollable. Psychopaths can be high functioning though.

You're sort of right grim, it's all on a spectrum but sociopaths have a lower impulse control and are usually less intelligent, that's VERY general though and it also depends on the way the brains developed through childhood

I hope this is a Sherlock reference

Sociopathy doesn't really exist; it falls under antisocial personality disorder, which is a lack of empathy with a disregard for laws/norms of society. It's not just lacking remorse, and sociopaths don't just find people confusing - they lack the ability to emphasize with anyone, typically animals too. Also, I don't know how old you are, but antisocial personality disorder isn't really diagnosed until around age 16-adulthood.

I just hope this isn't a self-diagnosis and os based off some real form of examination, not just edginess

But I think it's pretty obvious whether you are a sadist or not, but idk

Sociopaths don't lack complete empathy, they feel very attached to a select few people, or even animals.

There's a self proclaimed sociopath in my math class, and he's really smart and usually understands everything but refuses to help us cause he doesn't care if we suffer

During my graduate school, I taught a course on media portrayal of sociopathy and psychopathy vs actual the disorders and unfortunately some people feel the need to self-identify as a sociopath or psychopath when really they just want an excuse to be an arse. Just an observation, not saying anyone here is doing that (except maybe the guy in german_satan's maths class).

I completely agree with @unicycle, I did a research project on Psychopaths and sadistic killers (focusing on their cognitive development in relation to their upbringing), learnt a lot. Honestly some people these days just like to self diagnose themselves with crazy things, it's sad that they want to be anything but normal in my opinion. To be professionally diagnosed you have to go to a doctor and then a psychiatrist, not just a 'therapist' which is an extremely broad term. Therapist in what area?

Therapists have no credentials. Therapist is just a title. Psychologist, you need a PhD in psychology. Psychiatrist, you need an MD. Those people have credentials.
