It's like they skim read the first chapter of the first book and said "I get the jist of it now, let's go do this!"

OH also they made Ryuk too... Monsterish? Like in the Japanese adaptations they kind of kept him like he is in the anime/manga but in this one they tried to hard to make him scary and even though they had a misa character they completely forgot about the second death note and death god. But yeah, I loved L's character.

Exactly! He's meant to be chaotic neutral, Ryuk isn't evil himself. Humans are the monsters. I hated Mia in this.

Yeah, besides the edgy it kind of pissed me off that they kept the main characters name as Light, which I've never seen someone named that besides DN, but Misa, which I've personally known two people with that nickname, was changed to Mia? I mean her character anf protrayel was shitty too. Woooow a cheerleader who acts nothing like a cheerleader ( would have matched original Misa Misa more IMO if she was a bubbly cheerleader instead of what she is)

Yeah they changed it to Mia. They made Light to much of an emo lol

I dont know if you've ever seen it but I got some major Heathers vibes from it, namely thethem murdering people and thats what got them together type stuff.

I don't have Netflix. But the moment they had announced the live action movie I knew they would fuck up and give us a disappointment.

I've never read Death Note and I haven't watched the anime... but from what I've heard/read it seems like Ryuk is a lot like Mephistopheles from Faustus; is this assumption correct?

I know that from somewhere...is that the opera where the dude makes a deal with the devil for a young bride?
funkmasterrex · 6 years ago
Not for a bride... and Mephistopheles is a demon who once made a similar bargain... he tries to tell Faustus not to do it (Faustus gains knowledge and basically becomes a traveling "magician") but Faustus does it anyway and the entire time Mephistopheles is telling him he can still get out of it but Faustus doesn't listen and then on the final night Death comes and Faustus whines his ass off and Mephistopheles is all... "I fucking told you, you shit".

It's a book first and foremost... but there is are a few operas based off it.

Tgank you for the information :) I know Mozart did one :)
Sort of similar. Ryuk gives Light the Death Note simply because he's bored. Throughout the series he tells Light about the rules and risks of using it and even tries to make a deal with him for his Shinigami eyes which Light refuses. Ryuk is chaotic neutral, he likes it when it goes tits up but he won't help if it doesn't benefit him. He's not evil really like the Netflix movie tries to make him out to be, it's meant to show that humans are the REAL monsters, not the Shinigami. They're just doing their jobs really.

And I know that Faustus was written by Goethe. :)

Is give it a watch if you can, even if it's through Crunchyroll (I'm not sure if it's on there, I know the live action series is)

*I'd

It's probably better I never read the anime..... since apparently they changed a lot of it. My favorite version of the Faustus story in opera form is by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra... they use Beethoven... shit gets intense lol

Oh.. also.. the good/bad angel on each shoulder, that comes from Faustus.
