Tough luck if you are a shareholder of a company that lends money to people who willingly agree to borrow. Screw stock shareholders though, right? Maybe if the stocks like that are a major holding in your parents retirement accounts, they can come live with you. After all,,you have no student debt now.

1. I'm going to guess the rule was not against pumpkins but against jack-o-lanterns.
2. The reason for the rule is probably for fire safety. But, yeah, you put one over on those stupid rule makers and are hilariously endangering the lives of your fellow dorm residents. Fire safety rules are for *other* people because risk would never catch up,with you, or the drunk who staggers I to your room and knocks cover the pineapple-o-lantern, and YOU would never fall asleep and leave the flaming fruit unattended...just other people might.

There have been several up and down cycles of the earth's average temperature, based on historical, records and ice thickness data from the Antarctic and Arctic. There wan an ice age while man was on earth. But all those cycles were independent of any of man's activities. So why are we so quick to infer that all these natural cycles are man's doing? And why are we obsessed with the developed world's 0.1% of pollution while ignoring the third world burning dung for heat and for cooking, or China's smog that's so thick you can't see a couple blocks away?

Imcan believe that someone stays in a comfortable /no-risk position, and misses out on the salary bumps he'd have gotten if he'd looked around. But it's a little much to,accept that one firm rubbed it in the other one's face with a sympathy card. Even if the managers had a little rivalry going, you never put ANYTHING in writing that could be used later. When resigning, you don't even put "thank you for the experience" or "I learned a lot" but just put the date you're leaving.

At other places, there was the possibility of running out of food. At an American (capitalist) place, it was known that they'd move heaven and earth to,avoid that, so standing in a long line would at least eventually pay off. At the time (1990) I worked for a company that made automotive engine controls, and Russian company VAZ had our personnel there working on their vehicles so they could be sold in the west.
But, capitalism is bad because some, people have more than others. We need communism because everyone is equally poor off. Well, not the ruling elites...they have more than everyone else.

Millenials may be "killing" certain things, like mayo, by merely avoiding them because they don't like them. It's rather easy to just refrain from eating things you just don't care for. But the student loan industry...well, that would require not borrowing for the education you feel entitled to. Go to a local school or state school when it's not your dream college experience? Major in a field that gets you a job that pays well enough to,repay your loans? Screw that, I wanna study Pacific native art history. You *could* kill the student loan industry, but you'd have to refrain from doing whatever you want (as a generation).

Nobody hates millennials. We hate the idea that it's cool to walk around with your underpants showing. We hate that someone with a gender studies degree notches because she doesn't earn as much as someone with an engineering degree. We hate that someone complains about how huge his college loans are, but instead of going to affordable Sate U, he went to his dream private college to get the full college experience. We hate that someone can't talk to you without saying "like" every damn sentence, and can't resist looking down at the phone while you're trying to make a point that requires attention.
There are other ACTIONS we hate, and millennials do them more than other age groups, but we don't hate millennials themselves. When selecting a stripper for a lap dance or a hooker for xxxxxxx, a millennial would make a better choice than so one for the baby boomers or the greatest generation.

Do,you guys believe everything you hear or read? I doubt that there is any *state* in which nunchucks are illegal. There are certainly many municipal ordinances where it's illegal,to,carry a concealed weapon without a license to do so. I have a concealed carry permit for a firearm, but such a permit doesn't exist for nunchucks, or switchblades, or....
So it may be illegal for me to carry nunchucks because they are defitiely a weapon, same as a switchblade, but not a Swiss Army knife because that's a tool. There is a grain of truth to this post, but it's very full of holes as well.

Chances are, the men they screwed with aren't the same guys that support defining yourself as another gender to do whatever you want. So, those women offended some men because all they had in common with the weirdos that did the gender re-identifying was their gender. But, at least they got to upset someone (unrelated to what offended themselves) so,it evens out.

I read a book about something like this why I was in 2nd grade. A boy did something that made a cockroach his friend (can't recall what). There was this bully who always picked on that kid, and the roach got a few hundred friends to go to the bully's home and crawl in his mouth, ears and nose. The bully was horrified, and then the one roach said that they'd be back if he didn't quit bullying the boy.
This was 50 years ago (yeah, an old guy follows funsubstance) so there are a lot of details I can't remember.

Have you noticed that schools must let girls on the wrestling team, but boys are still forbidden from playing volleyball? It makes sense on one level, because a few boys would totally do,I ate things over the smaller weaker girls, but it's still not "equal" or "fair."
With scouts, I would have imagined that the aggrieved parties would start their own organization with the rules and bylaws they favored. Or, run their Girl Scout troop with more "boy like" activities. But it's not about equality or fairness....it's about making everyone else do what you want. OK, we accept your gay marriage, but if I don't celebrate it, there's a lawsuit waiting to happen. If I don't try to hinder your gay marriage, that's not enough...I have to be forced by the courts to bake a cake for it.
People who don't care about Boy Scouts are OK with this turn of events, but eventually the political correctness stupidity will affect something you DO care about.

Not the guest who posted earlier, but I find these daddy-daughter dances to be weird and off putting. I don't want to stop, you from enjoying it of it trips your trigger, but a prom for a dad to take a daughter to is too screwy for me. I take each of my daughters on trips, excursions, or whatever, but it's never like a date with formal wear, corsage and a cheaply decorated gym, hall or ballroom.
I hear that the girl is supposed to learn that a man has to treat her with good manners, but my girls get that ALL the time, not on this kind of "date." But if the girl in this story was looking forward to it, it's very nice that the guy stepped in and escorted her.

This may be a difficult concept, but your parents are (probably) adults, taxpayers and homeowners, while the children are occupants of the living space they pay for and consumers of the goods and services they pay for, like food, utilities and auto insurance. If you really want to live your own life with the freedom to make all your own decisions, do,so as an adult--that is, you pay for your own expenses and provide your own resources...and not in their house. As Sheldon said, "Mi cathedral, mi regula."

Without saying if teachers are underpaid or overpaid or something else, I'll point out that they do get benefits most of the rest of us don't:
-All summer off plus a Christmas break plus maybe spring break vs. the rest of our two to four weeks of vacation.
-More job security than most of us and better insurance benefits.
-A pension.
Also, I and many other engineers work unpaid overtime to keep your car's air bags operating correctly or your plane safe or any of several other things. Teaching looks like a difficult job for someone like me, but for a person with a different mind set it could be perfect and also offer a lot of benefits besides the amount of the paycheck.

But it turned out that they DID have a cat of the breed she wanted. But apparently it was more important to grind that ax against someone who wanted a certain kind of cat than to find a home for it.
Some of you guys are sure angry at someone for wanting a certain kind of pet. So she tried the shelter first to see if they had one that she wanted that would also be saved from euthanasia. I don't get the condescension towards someone who has a specific idea of the pet they want.

Cost of a wedding circa 1957 23 comments

To be accurate, that's the cost of the RECEPTION. No mention of the cost of the dress...which apparently women sometimes spend >$5000 on for a one time use (today's dollars). Also, 30+ years ago, nobody had a destination wedding, obligating guests to,spend a buttload of money just to get to.
You can still have a reception in the equivalent in today's dollars. I've been to several where friends and relatives made the food and people served themselves buffet style. It might. It be a princess's dream wedding reception, but some couples foot their own bill rather than rely on daddy's limitless checkbook.

It's called "life." You have to put effort/time/expertise/conscientiousness into your efforts for any return or gain. Why don't friends just immediately become your BF without anything from your side? Why doesn't the object of your affection fall for you the second you notice him/her/whatever? Why doesn't your house clean itself? Why doesn't money fall into your pockets? Why does the person who gets in a program of exercise and eats healthy food and bypasses junk food get to look better and feel better that you when you do the opposite?
It's just not fair! Who do we sue?

Basic income: One more way for the government to subsidize your "correct behavior" with money taken from, others, and punish "wrong behavior" by withholding your money. Sit around and never agitate the status quo? Here's your monthly check. Fail a drug test(including nicotene, can't have smokers driving up society's health care costs)? You get less.
If you think the government doesn't already encourage/discourage certain actions, you haven't ever filled out a 1040. There are tax breaks (deductions and credits) for some actions and extra taxes for others. But yeah, let's get more of that. Let's give more power to Trump or Obama or whichever next one is worse than both.

Right, more sports records DON'T have anything to do with being smarter or not. In fact, the second person is very "non-smart" using those things as an argument against the accusation that having quick information access only appears to make modern kids seem smart.
And as far as more athletic achievements, that points to:
-Better coaching methods (you can break down every movement to milliseconds and analyze)
-Better working and more undetectable drugs
-Finding talent earlier due to,sports being so I,pprtant in many people's lives...at one time, parents didn't go,to,every game a kid had, and now scouts go to see five year olds play.

They went bankrupt, reconstituted under a slightly different name, and are in business again without owing any pension money to,people who had been promised one for years (including pulling the rug out from people already retired). How can you get money from a company that no longer exists?
