It was polite, it wasn’t kind. How many times have I heard a variation of “he’s not here right now”, or have someone hang around until it’s he’s turn. No false hope given and a clear explanation. Sure, rejection hurts. We also have to worry about hurting the other person’s feelings, because they like us?
