sensed movement and put his foot on the gas without even looking up.
For insurance purposes, though, because I didn’t personally see him on his phone and I’d been the one changing lanes, it was marked down as a “dangerous lane change”.
Long story short, I guess: don’t assume people are being nice drivers.

Story time: I was in a car crash where the other person was distracted driving, but technically I was the car at fault because I couldn’t prove it, lol.
So I was one lane too far to the right to turn left and get in the right position to get on the freeway in a somewhat unfamiliar area to me. I turned on my left blinker, not thinking anyone would let me over, but figuring it couldn’t hurt. To my surprise when the lanes to my left got a green turn arrow, the car diagonally behind me didn’t move forward, making me think they were leaving me an opening to get over. I couldn’t see their face from my position, but I did the “thank you” wave and started to pull into the lane. After I was almost completely in the lane I hear a crunch as the driver that I thought was letting me in crashed into my car’s side. My little sister who had been in the car with me said he’d been looking down at his lap the whole time, even when he crashed into me - making me think he was on his phone and just ...
