Except, deadpan doesn't work too well on here. Not with certain topics. You need to remember that this site is made up of 'us people' and we determine what 'jokes' are funny or not. It doesn't matter whether or not your thinking that it'll be funny, no one here likes assholes.

No, respect is going above just being decent. I might wave at some random person when they wave at me, and I might smile at them, but I don't know them, and have nothing to base any respect on. But, say I knew a veteran, who had saved hundreds of lives. I would have utmost respect for for them, and treat them as my superior.

On first interactions, I neither respect, or disrespect people. You don't have to 'respect' anyone to just be a decent person towards them.
