I think it's a question where you live.
People in rural areas, such as the one I grew up in, tend to be the ones stating that a one hour drive is a burden of hell, while in metropolitan areas it is impossible to get anywhere without spending an hour in traffic or trains.

"Endless food", the dog said and ate himself to death.
No seriously, everybody having a dog knows it would be a fatal mistake if they were to chose.

I once went fishing with my grandpa at Rhine River where we caught a 20 Pound jackfish. I say we 'cause it took 12-year-old me and my 70-something grandpa like 45 minutes to get that dang fish tired.

Fun to talk to such a dedicated and devoted fan of the good ole Vicki's, lol
Indeed your knowledge and experience seems to be way more advanced than mine, but I certainly give you right in the point of Christian influence on what we know today.
Fact is, that the "Vicking culture" is one of the most underrated (by constantly reducing them to hack and slay in media) of all cultures that went down the drain.

And they were outstanding craftsmen!
Their woodwork was made to last centuries, but still covered in sophisticated carvings.
Their blacksmiths were by far the best of their time. They were trading their goods over thousands of miles, what an amazing culture that must have been.
There are even traces of their gender equality having been more advanced than what we are having today.

Alright, this is leading to the depths of political understanding. How many countries are in existence offering individual liberty without democracy, peace and wealth?
We all can see where your unlimited personal liberty and freedom of speech have brought you: a completely divided society which values feelings more than facts. And which is offended by everything said critically in their direction, because "you can't say that".
And to come back to the military "defending Germany", which is "taking more than giving", have you ever read the mission description of EUCOM? Interestingly, it doesn't include a word about defending Germany. But let me guess, this is something the very stable genius with science in his blood knows better? He maybe should've talked to JB Hodges.

The whole world is waiting for it, with tons of new popcorn in the microwaves already.
Besides me sometimes getting slightly angry about famousones ignorance and constant "America is number one and in all cases my president knows best, as long as my president is republican and against science and we'll rule the universe once we get ourselves out of every global partnership that was working excellently for decades until my president decided pissing off every valuable partner would help him to win the next election"-posts, believe me, Trumps constant bullshit that's proving he hasn't understood the slightest thing so far and half of the US population still thinking he's a mastermind is one of the most amusing things that happened in world politics for decades. Especially as now it mostly impacts the US itself and not the rest of the world.
And @famousone: That is not how you end a discussion, kid. Look it up.

Doesn't matter, the outlet will be historically extremely wrong anyways. Like almost everything they've done to Norse mythology and vikings.

For patriotism, that's a thing I don't really understand.
I mean, I know Germany is a very nice country to live in, we have great advantages compared to other countries and yes, in the past and present there were very many people from Germany who invented great things or contributed massively to the world progress, but that has nothing to see with myself. I didn't choose to be born in this country, I haven't invented great things, I didn't make the world a better place (so far).
But I have great achievements of my own in my own life and environment which I'm proud of, so perhaps that is the reason I'm not in the need to be proud of things I didn't have any influence in or to make myself feel better than others, just because the odds made me a white male German.

for their military either doesn't really make any change in the calculation.
This stunt is weakening the US position in Europe, which was even admitted by high-ranked Republican politics. The largest US hospital outside the US is here, we have Ramstein, Baumholder etc. pp. which thankfully were used for man and material during all middle eastern adventures of the US Army.
We're not scared of somebody attacking us, who should do such a stupid thing? And even if, we're still NATO member and have like 26 allies around us. There is a pure economical story behind this, as we'd have around 10.000 people who'd need new jobs.
Your president is arbitrarily drawing firend-foe lines on his inner map and sells it to you as a "great deal" for the US (see the travel restrictions during COVID for all Europe except UK, where at that time the infection curve was at the worst of all the continent) and you fall for it.

No. Nobody gets arrested for political opinions. People get arrested for crimes. And freedom of speech ends, where it harms others. If I call you a *insert insult here*, you may go to the police and file charges. Then I won't be arrested, but I probably will recieve a letter asking for my version of the story and in the end I might be fined.
What you are talking about is the glorification of German war crimes (which is forbidden for extremely good reasons), or trying to bring down the public order or being massively anti-constitutional. And even in this cases, it depends if you're expressing this in public, if you're a person of public interest, or not, if you're taking part in a political protest, or not, etc.
And even then, it is very unlikely to get arrested, but there is a potential to be fined.
For your military problems, we don't want you to go because of a few thousand jobs related to your military presence. Furtherly, moving the men and material to Poland, which isn't paying 2%
